Split hair ends is a type of hair damage that can be caused by different kind of stress factors.
Some of the major causes are chemical treatments, excessive heat from styling tools, overuse of certain hair products, rough brushing, washing too often and environmental damage from the sun and sea water.

Split hair ends can also be caused by internal factors such as a nutrient deficiency related to your diet or a hormonal imbalance.

Our hair starts to naturally split every 3-4 months, which is why it’s good to get a regular hair cut.

There are a few other ways to prevent and treat split hair ends.
Going as natural as possible with both your diet and your haircare routine are the most powerful changes you can make;

→  Take it easy with chemical treatments such as relaxing and coloring your hair.
If you dye your hair, use a natural color product or Henna, which is amazing for your hair.

→  Minimize the use of heat styling tools like straighteners, blow dryers and curling irons.

→  Use natural hair products instead of those made with synthetic ingredients.

→  Don’t brush or comb your hair when it’s wet.

→  Eat healthy and hydrate with lots of water, herbal teas and coconut water.

→  Condition your hair regularly with nourishing, repairing oils like coconut oil.

Due to the small molecular structure of coconut oil, it manages to penetrate deeper into the hair shaft than other oils. It’s especially good at restoring protein loss, which is why it can transform damaged hair back into healthy, beautiful hair.
Coconut oil strengthens the hair fibre from the inside, reduces hair loss and supports hair growth.

It also protects your hair from heat damage and sun / salty water which is especially useful for the beach girls among us!

This article explains in depth why it’s good to use coconut oil for your hair.

One of the DIY hair recipes I like a lot is this coconut oil split hair ends treatment.
It’s made with 3 natural oils that have been used for ages to strengthen and beautify hair: coconut oil, castor oil and argan oil.

If your coconut oil is solid, melt it au bain marie in a bowl placed in a pan with shimmering water.

Remove from heat and mix in the castor oil and organ oil.

Massage it into your clean hair ends and leave it in for at least 30 minutes.

For an intense repair treatment, leave the coconut oil split hair ends treatment in for up to six hours.

Rinse well afterwards.
