Shaving is such a common activity that most of us don’t think much about it. But did you know that it causes a lot of stress on your skin?

Our skin is covered with a protective lipid barrier layer. Its function is to keep the moisture inside of the skin tissue and protect the skin from external influences.
Shaving damages this protective layer and can cause ingrown hairs, razor bumps and inflammation.

While you can’t entirely avoid shaving damage, you can minimize it.
Always use good quality razor blades and shave gently. Avoid dry shaving and use a protecting shaving product such as this
shea butter shaving cream.

Good aftercare is also important, so today I am going to show you how to make this easy DIY almond oil aftershave cream.

This rich and nourishing cream is full with natural ingredients that nourish your skin.

The ingredients

Shea butter deeply moisturizes, stimulates collagen production and improves skin elasticity. It is one of my favorite daily skin care products.

Sweet almond oil is rich in vitamin E which helps protect the skin from all sorts of external damage.
It is very mild and hypoallergenic.

Carrot seed oil is rich in Vitamin A and beta-carotene which help keep the skin soft and protect it against free radicals.

Tea tree oil helps prevent infections, is anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal and helps cure cuts and wounds.

Coconut oil contains healthy fatty acids such as Lauric acid, vitamin E and other antioxidants with strong anti-aging properties.

Ingredients:

1/3 cup / 80 ml coconut oil
1/3 cup / 80 ml shea butter
1/4 cup / 60 ml sweet almond oil
1 tbsp carrot seed oil
15 drops tea tree oil

Melt the coconut oil and shea butter in a bowl placed in a pan with shimmering water on the lowest heat. Stir continuously.
This is a gentle way to melt and mix ingredients while protecting the nutrients.

Remove the bowl and mix in the sweet almond oil, carrot seed oil and tea tree oil.

Put the bowl in the refrigerator for about half an hour.

Once the mixture is solid, whip it with a mixer for a few minutes until you reach a light, airy texture.

Use this nourishing DIY almond oil aftershave cream right after shaving. Gently massage it into your skin and give it time to absorb.

It’s a great natural product for both ladies & men! Get creative with the essential oils to create your favorite scent.
